So, I realize this poll will only appeal to (and, perhaps, only make sense to) a very small number of people reading here. However, I was wondering, and, therefore, I poll.

(and when I say "snoods," I mean ones like these.)

The advantages of being single! (Oh, and not Orthodox :)

If I were to go to an Orthodox shul I'd take care to cover all my hair - currently, the only thing I own that would do that is a fancy snood picked up at a Ren Faire.

I have a fancy beaded & ribboned snood that I could see wearing to shul. But the plain colored ones (particularly the brown ones) just don't feel fancy to me. I don't wear them with my court garb for SCA purposes, either. ;)

I also have a million crocheted kippot, because we can wear those to shul now, and also this hat thing, that's sort of a cross between a snood and a beret, which a friend brought me from her trip to Israel.

My shul doesn't require any kind of head covering, and a lot of the older ladies refuse to wear anything, but I love hats, and I notice a lot of the younger crowd wear something on their heads.

My shul is the same. And I also have lots of crocheted kippot. There are times I use the silence during services to look around and see what people have on their heads. :)

I do that too! Some people are really creative *G*.

There's no poll option for kippot. :-p

Yeah. And I picked "hat" but I don't wear my hat in shul.

Those are NICE snoods. I suddenly want to have long hair. Are they warm in winter? I'd totally wear one in winter if they're nice and warm while waiting for the bus.

As a fashion statement of course, not a religious one. I'd wear it with my rather eclectic wardrobe. :D

I wouldn't call those snoods, I'd call them head-scarves. To me, snoods are crocheted hair netting worn with historical garb. If you can't see your hair through it, how can it be a snood?

There are snoods, and then there are snoods. I'd say the formal snoods are ok, as they give respect, if that makes sense, but my down and dirty get the hair out of the way when I'm cutting wood snood? Not so much.

it definitely depends on both the shul and snood. In some shuls you'd get all sorts of horrified looks if you wore a snood, while it seems to be the norm in others. I agree with "cbpotts" assessment above about snoods and then snoods.

You left out "depends on the shul/snood combination" - there are some snoods that would be okay in some shuls but not others...

I don't wear snoods, partly 'cause G doesn't like them and partly because within the past few years my hair has varied back and forth between very thick and long enough to reach my shoulder blades to very thick and long enough for the person next to me to sit on (accidentally).

I'm curious how one wears a narf! Got any links to pictures?

You win for the Bartholomew Cubbins reference.

I wasn't sure anyone would catch that one.

It was one of my favorite books when I was younger.

[livejournal.com profile] sdavido thinks "snood" sounds like a Dr. Seuss character... :-)
