So I usually avoid every spoiler as long as I possibly can, but I had an idea where this one was going; and since it's casting information, I was going to hear about it shortly anyway, so I went ahead and checked the article. (Thank you for the spoiler warning, though!) But this news is too funny. I think I will keep this news private from my mother so that she can be surprised. This will be huge for her.

But as for the phrasing you call out: Ha! And here I thought parallel universes (not to mention travel between them) were only fiction/theory!

The wonder of the web, dumb mistakes can be corrected quickly (but still live on forever). The quote in question now reads:

They do indeed live on forever. Variety briefly ran a claim that in the next Star Trek movie, Spock's mother Amanda will be a Vulcan. This was quickly corrected, but you can still find people screaming about this "canon violation" all over the Net.
