I've heard from a number of people who were concerned because I haven't posted anything of substance for a while. So, here's a substance-filled entry. :-)

Last week was very busy, both at work and at home. Monday night, MAB and I went to the New England Aquarium after work to see an IMAX film on fish (the NEAq was trying to get teachers to bring school groups, so they did a free sneak preview). The film was gorgeous and quite impressive in 3D. A good time was had.

Tuesday night after work we did grocery shopping in anticipation of (a) Purim and (b) dinner guests for Friday night. At that point, we still didn't know what we were going to do for shabbat lunch, so we were mighty pleased to get a lunch invitation from friends we haven't seen in a while.

Wednesday, MAB had a meeting, and I did stuff that has now been lost to the recesses of my mind. Most likely caught up on stuff that I needed to get caught up on.

Thursday night, MAB and I had dinner with a friend we'd met at Boskone. Dinner was much fun, and I hope we'll get the opportunity to do dinner with him again (although, hopefully, not during another snowfall).

On Friday afternoon, I rushed home from work and started cooking almost immediately once I walked in the door (usually, I try to get at least some of my cooking done ahead of time; see above for reasons this didn't happen this time). I made butternut squash, chicken soup with matzah balls, Chinese beef with water chestnuts, rice, and a marinated cauliflower salad, and somehow I managed to get them all done in time for shabbat. People ate and enjoyed, and we still had enough left overs for dinner last night and a lunch for me for one day this week. Our guests were fun (we have them over frequently, and we always have good conversation when they come over), and a good time was had by all.

On Saturday, we had lunch with the aforementioned friends we hadn't seen in a long time. It was nice to see them and to see the other couple they had as guests, whom we hadn't seen since Boskone even though they live only about a 10 minute walk from us (well, we'd seen them in passing once or twice, but hadn't really had conversation opportunities in a while). After lunch (which means around 4:45 PM), we headed back toward home and ran into the wife of the couple who had been at dinner on Friday, who was out for a walk with her son and some relatives who had come to visit. They walked with us until about the half-way point of our walk home, and then we continued on our merry way.

Saturday night, right after shabbat, MAB and I headed out to visit [livejournal.com profile] laurens10 and [livejournal.com profile] tapuz, with whom we've been trying to get together for about 6 months. We had a lovely visit and most excellent food, and then they did us the favor of driving us home (at midnight!) so that we wouldn't have to call a cab (we'd taken the bus there, but by the time we were leaving, the buses weren't running reliably).

On Sunday, MAB and I did a number of around-the-home things that had been neglected, plus I began editing a story that I'd been sent to look at. We also ran a bunch of errands and did some writing and other stuff that needed doing. By the time I fell into bed, I was quite exhaused and fell asleep without much trouble.

Today is Ta'anit Esther, the fast of Esther that preceeds Purim. I'm still fasting (the fast began at sun-up this morning), but I have emergency food with me in case my sinuses make it sufficiently difficult for me to accomplish anything today (since it is a minor fast, it is more acceptable to break the fast for reasons of health than, say, the fast of the 9th of Av or Yom Kippur). Tonight after work MAB and I will go to megillah reading and then go home and make up mishloach manot packages (on Purim, we give gifts of food to each other, and we haven't yet prepared our food packages).

So that's what I've been up to. I wish a tzom kal (easy fast) to all who are fasting today and a chag Purim sameach (happy Purim) to everyone celebrating tomorrow.
