I was born left-handed, switched in school by the teacher (illegally!), and I still eat left-handed and am as likely to go for something with my left as my right. I write right-handed, however.

This happened to my grandfather, as well. Were you, by any chance, educated by nuns?

Actually, no, public education the entire way.

I'm young enough that it was illegal to change my handedness at the time, but my parents didn't twig to the problem soon enough -- by the time they realized, I was pretty much right-handed.

I guess technically I am a Rightie, but I can write and such with my left hand as well. It ain't pretty, but it is legible...which is more than I can say for some of my brother's left handed writing, and he IS a Leftie.

I'm a righty, but I brush my teeth and shoot left handed.

(The shooting is because I'm left eye dominant, and it's easier to line up a shot if the gun's on the same side as my eye. I'm not sure about the toothbrush thing.)

Seconded! Did they really take it away?!?! "I grew up only a few blocks away" is the best line. It's also a great homage to the no longer existent West End.

And just to add more randomness, I'm right-hand dominant, but left-eye dominant. It makes taking photos or shooting archery more difficult than necessary.

Huh. I've never really paid attention to eye dominance, but I do know that whenever I'm lining up a shot (photographically), I close or cover my right eye, or just use my left eye to the viewfinder, and that seems natural. I'm right-handed.

It took me a minute to realize the the "my" in "My eyes are" referred to me, and this wasn't a "Guess Nomi's eye color" game.

[livejournal.com profile] leorathesane and I argue constantly about the color of my eyes. I say they're brown. My entire life, I've said they're brown. My entire life, my parents have said they're brown. My birth certificate says they're brown. My driver's license says they're brown.

My wife says they're green.

After years of arguing, we've agreed on this: my eyes are brown, unless you're standing really close to them, in which case you might notice that they're hazel, but the only people who should ever be standing close enough to see that are my wife and my eye doctor.

I wear glasses, but only when I'm using the computer. I am farsighted with a bit of astigmatism, which means I get wicked headaches at the computer without the glasses. Don't need 'em for anything else...not yet, anyway.

I am right-handed, but I can write (slowly and shakily) with my left hand.

I have glasses that I wear when I drive at night and when I read. I SHOULD be wearing them more often, but they are so old. I have excellent vision coverage, but I've been so lazy about making an appointment. You know what, I'm making one today! :-D

Shabbat Shalom!!!

Hazel always trips me up.

To me it connotes light brown -- I associate it with hazelnuts/filberts.

Since coming to America, I've noticed it's used to mean green eyed -- people will say my eyes are hazel when they are, to me, a greenish shade of blue.

I call mine hazel. They have a bunch of different colors in them, so they look different depending on what I wear or how the light is. They have a dark blue ring around the outside, then are greenish for most of the iris, with a brownish-gold starburst splash right around the pupil.

I think it's not a color as much as a pattern of colors. Mine most often look green.

that's what i always thought hazel was.

I think hazel is a catch-all for "I can't really define this color". Mine have a thin ring of gray-blue around the outside, and gold-green in the center. I call them hazel.

I am right-handed in most things except the following: batting (baseball), golfing, archery ... I thought this list was longer, but am now running out of things to list. I like using both hands when doing any sort of routine and/or mechanical task -- my boss (a few bosses ago) liked giving me the mailing to send out because I organized it to use both hands and get it done faster, with less stress to my body.

I'm not fully ambidextrous, but I can do more things with my left hand than most right-handed people, including writing and caning. That's one of my secrets to topping, actually - when my right arm tires out, I can switch to my left for a while, and I am just as precise and evil.

I'm nearsighted in one eye, so I have glasses with one prescription lens and one of window glass, which I mainly wear at movies or when driving in bad weather.
