I'm engaged in a similar project right now, but so far I've managed to collect more of them than read them (other than the obvious Difference Engine and Diamond Age, as mentioned above), because I have too many other projects going on at once.

I did pick up an anthology edited by Jeff and Ann Van der Meer which looks like a good introduction, though. Called, oddly enough, Steampunk.
