Busy Monday Rambly Bits
Aug. 11th, 2008 01:07 pm-- Been busy, and this week looks busy, too. I'm approaching a deadline at work, so stuff is kicking into high gear. If posting is sparse here, that will be why. Alternatively, if I become Posty McPostalot, it will be due to my avoiding stuff I should be doing. :-)
-- Between Friday and Sunday,
mabfan and I experienced two power outages. The one Friday started just before we were leaving for work, and power was restored long before we were home from work; yesterday's was more inconvenient (started around 5:30 PM and ended around 7:45 PM). At least yesterday afternoon's weather was on the cool (and rainy) side, so we weren't stifling in our powerless state.
-- Saturday night, I received word that I have sold my second story.
-- I've been morbidly fascinated by the ever-changing news story regarding Clark Rockefeller.
-- Some sort of allergen has been bugging me for the past week. I'm not sure if I'm now allergic to new and exciting summer plant life or if the recent consistent rainfall has stimulated my normal allergens to reinvigorate.
-- I've gotten particularly hooked on a couple of this summer's new shows, specifically "The Middleman" and "In Plain Sight." What surprises me about how much I like IPS is that I really didn't like Kate Harper, Mary McCormack's character in the later seasons of "The West Wing," and a lot of it was because of her acting style. But it seems to work well for IPS. And "The Middleman" is just plain fun. I wish it was pulling in better ratings.

Date: 2008-08-11 05:36 pm (UTC)Last night's ep was such a parallel in many ways of the one with Dave Foley in it...
They have the eps on USANetwork.com, but it does mean you have to watch it on your computer instead of the TV.
And, yes, it is the wedding one. :-)
And now I dive back into work... ::sploosh::

Date: 2008-08-11 05:54 pm (UTC)And, yes. I love Noser's song conversations with Wendy (I recognize most of the songs, which pleases me). And MM's interjections are *wonderful*. My favorite so far, as I have mentioned in the past, is "Flowers for Algernon!"

Date: 2008-08-11 06:55 pm (UTC)And IPS, I love, as well. There's something about the dynamic among the characters (especially Mary and Marshall) that really appeals to me. I'm very sad that next week is already the season finale.

Date: 2008-08-11 07:26 pm (UTC)Part of me is hoping that, like has happened with other shows, they'll give it a chance despite the low ratings. The fact that they moved it to 10 PM is, I think, what is causing a lot of its ratings issues.

::takes guess:: POF? It was his favorite years ago, and it was always, *always* the hardest one to fill.

Date: 2008-08-12 02:44 am (UTC)Boo on the power outages. We had one around 7 am Friday, and one later the same day, but none Sunday. Wonder what the deal with all that was. Hello, NStar?
And yeah, I'm finding myself fascinated by the Clark Rockefeller stuff, too. You kind of wonder what kind of psychopath manages all that stuff...and one question nothing has answered: where all his money was coming from. At the same time, it's hard not to think, "wouldn't it be cool if I could do that?" (Not the murder part, of course, well, maybe certain people, but anyhow I mean the pop around changing my name and making up a whole person for myself. I wonder if he's got any real consciousness of his deception.)

Date: 2008-08-12 01:02 pm (UTC)Yeah, we lost power Friday morning at about 6:35, but it was back well before I got home from work. Sunday's was more annoying, since we were home through the whole thing. NStar blamed it on "inclement weather," which, I will grant them, we were having both times. But one would think that in Boston they'd be sure to try to protect the electrical lines against inclement weather (because it's not like we never get inclement weather around here). Friday's outage was immediately preceded by a loud "BOOM!" from the vicinity of the transformer at the corner of Fuller and Winchester.

Date: 2008-08-12 04:23 am (UTC)I hope the thing bugging you isn't actually allergies, but really, it's been damp enough that it might just be mold or something related. The variety of mushrooms I've seen cropping up all over the neighborhood (lots of walking around when you have a dog, apparently) is pretty impressive.
