-- Been busy, and this week looks busy, too. I'm approaching a deadline at work, so stuff is kicking into high gear. If posting is sparse here, that will be why. Alternatively, if I become Posty McPostalot, it will be due to my avoiding stuff I should be doing. :-)

-- Between Friday and Sunday, [personal profile] mabfan and I experienced two power outages. The one Friday started just before we were leaving for work, and power was restored long before we were home from work; yesterday's was more inconvenient (started around 5:30 PM and ended around 7:45 PM). At least yesterday afternoon's weather was on the cool (and rainy) side, so we weren't stifling in our powerless state.

-- Saturday night, I received word that I have sold my second story.

-- I've been morbidly fascinated by the ever-changing news story regarding Clark Rockefeller.

-- Some sort of allergen has been bugging me for the past week. I'm not sure if I'm now allergic to new and exciting summer plant life or if the recent consistent rainfall has stimulated my normal allergens to reinvigorate.

-- I've gotten particularly hooked on a couple of this summer's new shows, specifically "The Middleman" and "In Plain Sight." What surprises me about how much I like IPS is that I really didn't like Kate Harper, Mary McCormack's character in the later seasons of "The West Wing," and a lot of it was because of her acting style. But it seems to work well for IPS. And "The Middleman" is just plain fun. I wish it was pulling in better ratings.

i love in plain sight. i occasionally want to smack everyone at least once (except marshall - marshal marshall, heh) but i don't think that's a bad thing. i stayed up stupidly late last night to catch the rerun, which was on at ONE, because i missed the first showing on account of the olympics, and it's one of those shows, if i miss an episode i get all discombobulated.

congrats on selling a story! is that the wedding one?

now go back to work. :D

I want to smack Brandi and Jinx regularly, and occasionally I want to smack Mary (specifically when it comes to Raph). I adore Marshall; he's the right mix of snarky and supportive that Mary needs.

Last night's ep was such a parallel in many ways of the one with Dave Foley in it...

They have the eps on USANetwork.com, but it does mean you have to watch it on your computer instead of the TV.

And, yes, it is the wedding one. :-)

And now I dive back into work... ::sploosh::

Congrats on the story sale. I'm also a big fan of Middleman, although I suspect that they're going to run out of stories in a season or 2 at the most.
My personal favorite part is the song quizzes with Noser, followed closely by MM's interjections.

And, yes. I love Noser's song conversations with Wendy (I recognize most of the songs, which pleases me). And MM's interjections are *wonderful*. My favorite so far, as I have mentioned in the past, is "Flowers for Algernon!"

Yes, but before they run out of episodes, I would so much like to see their take on the demonic pregnancy that goes from conception to adult child in two episodes. I mean, they have to have one, right? And it's my most hated thing in television, so I want to know what they will do with it.

*holds breath for renewal*

I tried Middleman, it has all the elements in it that should make me like it, but for some reason it doesn't work for me as much as it annoys me, so I stopped... however, I love IPS. It has quickly become one of my favorite "can't miss" TV shows.

I think Middleman is one of those shows that either you love it or you hate it. I can see it getting annoying, though I'm in the "love it" camp.

And IPS, I love, as well. There's something about the dynamic among the characters (especially Mary and Marshall) that really appeals to me. I'm very sad that next week is already the season finale.

Me too. When it first started I didn't like the whole Jinx/brandy storyline, but it got really involving.

I still have the closer and saving grace though, to get my strong woman fix:)

Both Jinx and Brandy were very flat characters when they were first introduced, but I think they've given both of them substance.

I don't know what I can do to help salvage the middleman. I want that show to get renewed so much, and it seems so very unlikely. I'm going to buy some episodes off of itunes in the vain hope that that helps, even though we will buy the DVDs when they come out.

I know! I wish there was something to do. If I recall correctly, the show creators asked that there *not* be a write-in campaign.

Part of me is hoping that, like has happened with other shows, they'll give it a chance despite the low ratings. The fact that they moved it to 10 PM is, I think, what is causing a lot of its ratings issues.

ETA: correct icon. :-)

that would be a one. this month is special for the conference, and will consist almost entirely of a table, split across many pages. it's an update of a previous multitable, so he thinks it should be easy. but of course, you add new things, and the entire thing needs to be re-split and formatted, and tedium ensues. so i plan to do it tonight while watching the sox-sox game, to keep from losing my mind.

i predict the sox will win.

It's an annoying newsletter to do (or, at least, it was) because there's almost no information. It's such a niche area of the industry.

i predict the sox will win.

Yaay on the story sale!

Boo on the power outages. We had one around 7 am Friday, and one later the same day, but none Sunday. Wonder what the deal with all that was. Hello, NStar?

And yeah, I'm finding myself fascinated by the Clark Rockefeller stuff, too. You kind of wonder what kind of psychopath manages all that stuff...and one question nothing has answered: where all his money was coming from. At the same time, it's hard not to think, "wouldn't it be cool if I could do that?" (Not the murder part, of course, well, maybe certain people, but anyhow I mean the pop around changing my name and making up a whole person for myself. I wonder if he's got any real consciousness of his deception.)

From: [identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com
Thank you!!

Yeah, we lost power Friday morning at about 6:35, but it was back well before I got home from work. Sunday's was more annoying, since we were home through the whole thing. NStar blamed it on "inclement weather," which, I will grant them, we were having both times. But one would think that in Boston they'd be sure to try to protect the electrical lines against inclement weather (because it's not like we never get inclement weather around here). Friday's outage was immediately preceded by a loud "BOOM!" from the vicinity of the transformer at the corner of Fuller and Winchester.

Wow, that's awesome about the story. Congratulations!
I hope the thing bugging you isn't actually allergies, but really, it's been damp enough that it might just be mold or something related. The variety of mushrooms I've seen cropping up all over the neighborhood (lots of walking around when you have a dog, apparently) is pretty impressive.

[profile] lcmlc's theory was that it was mold, as well (she has a mold allergy), which is possible. I don't have a history of mold allergies, but that doesn't really mean anything.
