-- After a consult with the brilliant and insightful [profile] madknits last night, I have decided to forego buttons (and, thus, buttonholes) on the cardigan I'm currently knitting and, instead, to use frogs or some other closure. So I'm off to Windsor Button at some point to investigate. And if they don't have what I want, I'll check out Winmill.

-- Another entry in the list of knitting tools I wish existed: three-place row counters. I mean, yes. Keeping track of my hundreds place isn't so hard. But I can do math in my head much more easily if all three places are there rather than having to remember that the "20" on the counter isn't actually "20" but "120" and therefore *is* divisible by 3.

I love frog closures! :-)

I hope you and Michael are doing well. I'll be heading out there again in a couple weeks, but spending most of my time in Worcester. Still, I'd love to see you all again if possible.

Have a great day! :)

Frog closures are great in the right circumstances. I'm not sure this is the right circumstance, but I'll consider it.

(I bought some frogs when I went out at lunchtime; there will be photos eventually.)

Maybe we can arrange something while you're local; we can try to figure it out.

How very disappointing. I was hoping for a race of specially-bred amphibians, who would not only hold the cardigan closed on demand, but keep flies off you in the summer and use croak-based sonar to guide you home late at night.

That would be excellent, yes. Trained amphibians make everything better.

My goodness, I want a three number counter. I knit lace shawls, for goodness sake.

I knew I couldn't be the only one who needed such a thing. I'm working on a lacework baby blanket (easy lacework, but, still, lots of rows) and would love to have something to keep track of my hundreds place for me.

Hrmm. For a cardigan, i'd suggest toggles rather than frogs. But I love non-button closures.

I picked up a set of frogs and a set of other closures. I'll be putting one of each against the knit fabric and then posting photos, most likely, for folks to weigh in.

I hate making buttonholes. [profile] madknits said something last night that made me realize that I could avoid them altogether if I did frogs or other closures.

Buttonholes are hell, any way you slice 'em. Glenn tends to save them for his Costume Crafts kids that can't do anything else.

It's comforting to know it's not just me that hates them.

I don't hate them as much while sewing, though I still dislike them.

Much better to do closures. :-)

Yay for frogs!

I want to make some frog closures....that could be a neat thing to do!

Ooh, I didn't even think of making my own. Some day, maybe.

My cloak has a frog closure, and it's the best thing. I love my cloak ([profile] beckyfeld made it for me eons ago), but it's mostly impractical for daily use. Plus I look like Quasimodo when I wear it with my backpack on.

Every now and then I come up with a good idea.

Indeed, you do. :-)

But, of course, I've now bought two different types of closures, and I'm going to make you (and everyone else) vote on which is better for the project.
