One of the Pleasures of Summer...
Sep. 4th, 2008 12:27 pm...is, at least for me, peaches. Fresh peaches. Fresh, super-yummy peaches. But I hadn't had any yet this season.
And then in the course of a conversation with
beadattitude, it occurred to me that I could rectify this. So of I went to the farmers market that is, conveniently enough, almost right behind my office building.
And I am now the owner of a bag of peaches. I've eaten one already. YUM!
So thank you,
beadattitude, for reminding me of the pleasures of fresh peaches.

Date: 2008-09-04 04:41 pm (UTC)I love pluots for two reasons-
1. It's fun to read, spell, and say "pluot."
2. They look like dinosaur eggs.

Date: 2008-09-04 04:54 pm (UTC)The husband grew up picking peaches.
The husband, therefore, hates peaches now.
The mother in law brings us fresh-frozen Fredericksburg peaches every year - which I get to eat/bake with/make yummy syrup with - ALL BY MYSELF.
Eight years later, I haven't decided if this is a tragedy or a magnificent blessing.

Date: 2008-09-04 05:07 pm (UTC)I always said, growing up, that that just meant more corn for me. :-)

Date: 2008-09-04 06:57 pm (UTC)The other yummy summer food is fresh sweet corn, recently picked (ideally the same day), boiled lightly (3-5 minutes, just until the kernels yield to a fork).
Mmmmmm. Summer foods in the Northeast.
Alas, we can't get these quite do good in Israel. The peaches and nectarines are quite yummy, but the corn all seems to have been trucked from far away

Date: 2008-09-04 07:02 pm (UTC)Peaches
Date: 2008-09-04 07:21 pm (UTC)Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin to the country,
Gonna eat me a lot of peaches
Movin to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Peaches come from a can,
They were put there by a man
In a factory downtown
If I had my little way,
Id eat peaches every day
Sun-soakin bulges in the shade
Take a little naps where the roots all twist
Squished a rotten peach in my fist
And dreamed about you, woman,
I poked my finger down inside
Make a little room for it to hide
Natures candy in my hand or can or a pie
Millions of peaches, peaches for me
Millions of peaches, peaches for free
Look out!
