...is, at least for me, peaches. Fresh peaches. Fresh, super-yummy peaches. But I hadn't had any yet this season.

And then in the course of a conversation with [profile] beadattitude, it occurred to me that I could rectify this. So of I went to the farmers market that is, conveniently enough, almost right behind my office building.

And I am now the owner of a bag of peaches. I've eaten one already. YUM!

So thank you, [profile] beadattitude, for reminding me of the pleasures of fresh peaches.

I bought some pluots yesterday.

I love pluots for two reasons-

1. It's fun to read, spell, and say "pluot."

2. They look like dinosaur eggs.

Ooh, pluots. I haven't bought any of those yet.

I'm a big apricot fan and a big plum fan. So combined, I figure it's a can't-lose.

I left some pluots at Aaron's house and he called me excitedly to tell me "I AM EATING A PLUOT!"

Most adorable fruit.

The husband's family is from Fredericksburg, Texas. This is where the best peaches in the whole wide world come from. (Don't let Georgia tell you otherwise.)

The husband grew up picking peaches.
The husband, therefore, hates peaches now.

The mother in law brings us fresh-frozen Fredericksburg peaches every year - which I get to eat/bake with/make yummy syrup with - ALL BY MYSELF.

Eight years later, I haven't decided if this is a tragedy or a magnificent blessing.

My dad grew up with fresh corn in the back yard. He'd be sent out to pick it *after* his mother put the pot of water on to boil it up. So we're talking fresh-fresh corn. He therefore won't eat corn on the cob that's older than, say, half a day.

I always said, growing up, that that just meant more corn for me. :-)

Mmmmmmm. Peaches.

The other yummy summer food is fresh sweet corn, recently picked (ideally the same day), boiled lightly (3-5 minutes, just until the kernels yield to a fork).

Mmmmmm. Summer foods in the Northeast.

Alas, we can't get these quite do good in Israel. The peaches and nectarines are quite yummy, but the corn all seems to have been trucked from far away

Mmm, fresh sweet corn. I love it. It's a true sign of summer to me.

Movin to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin to the country,
Gonna eat me a lot of peaches
Movin to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches

Peaches come from a can,
They were put there by a man
In a factory downtown
If I had my little way,
Id eat peaches every day
Sun-soakin bulges in the shade

Take a little naps where the roots all twist
Squished a rotten peach in my fist
And dreamed about you, woman,
I poked my finger down inside
Make a little room for it to hide
Natures candy in my hand or can or a pie

Millions of peaches, peaches for me
Millions of peaches, peaches for free

Look out!

That song (which gets decent amounts of airplay on my regular radio station) has been stuck in my head since I made the decision to buy my peaches today.

We should! I'm usually around on Thursday (no standing meetings), so maybe some Thursday we can meet up there.

I haven't had a decent peach all summer. *pout*

They've all been mealy and dry, with the exception of maybe two... and I was buying them regularly for a while. *pouts more*

That's very sad. The two I ate out of the bag today were very tasty.

Here's hoping you get better peaches soon.

I love them, but I keep forgetting to buy them. Today, they were very much on my mind, so I went and got some.

Yum, indeed.

On my way home from the bus today, I found a sidewalk chalking that read thus: "In a world of peaches, Angela, don't ask for applesauce."
Makes me wish I knew more of the story.
