Is 46 degree weather too warm to serve cholent with Shabbat lunch?

No. Any temperature under 70 is perfectly fine for that kind of meal. Hm. Maybe 60. 46 is plenty cold enough.

No.

I think the cutoff for cholent is somewhere around 80 degrees, myself.

Folks in my native Houston would serve cholent year-round; it wasn't unheard of to have it in 90-degree weather. Ridiculous to me when the idea of "hot meal" is a punishment rather than a treat, but it's amazing how much Southern folks hold on to traditions that only make sense in a less temperate climate.

Way too hot!

Of course, 46 here is about 115 in the US.

Yes. This. I had no idea we were expected to have a midsummer heat wave this Shabbat.

It's good in any weather under 60.

And even over 60 if it's at the shul kiddush.

It's never too hot for cholent!

(We actually tend to do it as a summer thing, b/c the crockpot throws less heat than leaving the oven on.)

Anytime that shabbat starts before 6 is not too warm to serve cholent.

That said, why *with* lunch and not *as* or *at* lunch?

nope! anything where you're not wishing that tzneus didn't require long sleeves is cool enough for cholent.

If it's going to be 46 degrees inside your house, you'll need the cholent to warm up. If your heat is on, then why does the outside temperature matter? :-) (I figure any time the furnace is on is a fine time to have cholent.)
