I fell over that in college, when a friend said "Did you know I was gay", and I (seriously, because I was stupid) asked "when did you stop being gay?"

Gosh, I was dumb.

I suppose, as a saving grace, that his grammar failure and my resulting literalism remains more significant to me than his orientation.
