-- It occurred to me that I'm getting many more comments on posts from women than from men. So I decided to do an analysis of my friends list (not that only friends comment, but I figured there might be some sort of correlation). My friend-of list (who, I assume, read me at least once in a while) comprises: 63 women, 28 men, 10 fic journals (OK, the fic journals don't read me; they're here purely for completeness), 3 unknown.

-- I've developed a sudden interest in fanvids. Donno exactly where this came from. But if you know of good sources thereof, I'd love to be pointed there. Fandoms I follow most are West Wing, Smallville, Sports Night, and The Sentinel. Shippy, non-shippy - I don't care. But I'd prefer happy to angsty (not that I am against angsty songs/vids. I'll just save them for watching later).

-- A reminder: if you've sent me e-mail and it's bounced (or you haven't heard back from me in over a week), please check the e-mail address you're sending it to. If you're using the @theworld address, you might want to choose another option (and if you don't know any other e-mail addresses for me, ping me here and I'll send you a new e-mail address to use).

-- I discovered this week that I am not the only one who finds both chickens and moose inherently funny. That was actually a good thing to know.

-- Why is it that the T has added new, spiffy, handicapped-accessible buses to the 66 line and simultaneously rerouted the end of the to-Harvard trip to end at the non-accessible entrance to Harvard station? What were they thinking?

-- And speaking of the new buses, I'm still deciding if I like them or not. They seem to have taken away leg room and maneuverability in the aisle, but I like the proliferation of lower hanging straps (so I don't have to stand on my tiptoes to hang on) and the lack of entry steps.

I'm glad to hear that there are more people who find moose and chickens funny. I can't explain why, they just are. But you understand that. :-)

Chickens are funny because they're kinda dumb. And also because you can do funny things with them (for instance, Chicken Run is one of the funniest films ever. Sure, the script is good, but even if it were dreck, the movie would still be funny, because it's about chickens. Moose are funny for no reason whatsoever.

If you feel the need to restore gender balance in your commenting, I am kind of a boy, some days; I could leave you lots of comments on those days.

You're right about Chicken Run. Though it would've been a very different movie as Moose Run. Of course, the moose in the opening credits of Northern Exposure is funny for just wandering around the town, I think.

The girls vs. boys thing was just an odd observation after I was wondering why certain posts got very gender-unbalanced comments when they weren't gender-specific. Just me being analytical. :-)

I found a couple of Casey/Dana SN vids once. If you're interested, I could try to dig the link up.

Thanks! If you can track it down, that would be great, but don't expend too much energy. Just knowing they're out there helps, 'cause I'll have keywords to hunt for.

One problem with the CNG buses is that I'm not sure they're allowed to run under the trackless trolley wires, meaning they can't use the Harvard bus tunnel.

Also, I suppose I should be doing my part to address the gender balance of your comments; I'm assuming you didn't have me down as one of the "unknown three".

Yeah, I'd wondered if there was something about that. But there should be more logical places for the bus to terminate, such as Holyoke Gate, which is down the block from the main (and accessible) Harvard T entrance.

And, nope, you weren't among the "unknown three." Those three are folk who have never spoken up here and who I can't determine in any way who they are. Thanks for commenting!

Are you still having trouble with your World account? I haven't missed any mail that I'm aware of (b'li eyin hara)... at least, my daily volume is about the same, I'm getting answers to things I send, and I haven't had anyone call up and ask why I haven't answered their mail.

My biggest problem is that World is bouncing all e-mail from remailers. Thus, any e-mail sent to a forwarding address - such as my gnomi@ alum dot bu dot edu address - is automatically bounced. And I've lost some business-critical mail this way. Mail sent directly to my @theworld address gets through about 85% of the time (there are some ISPs - such as comcast.net - that still don't get through, even when mail is sent directly). But I get a lot of redirected mail, and none of it successfully gets through to World.

Ah. I only have the one address so I guess I'm not having that problem. (Though I am getting mail from several N4 lists - that must be different.)

I'm having the same email problems Nomi is having.

I used to depend on my mab at mabfan address to forward all messages to my world account. What with their aggressive spam blocking (and apparently they're also fighting off a DNS attack but not telling their customers unless you call them and show them you understand techspeak), much of the mabfan mail gets rejected, without even so much as a bounce message to the sender.

It's true that they're blocking a lot of spam, as I can see now that mab at mabfan also forwards to my gmail "net" and I catch that spam in the spam folder. But they're also blocking mail sent directly to my mab at the world address, and their system is sending people I know repeated bounce messages.

In short, the things I set up my world account for ten years ago are no longer happening. Pretty soon, I'm just going to have to give them up completely.

As I said to Nomi, since I only have one address I guess I'm not having that problem. I'm sorry it's been such a hassle for you. I assume you've asked them if they can work around it?

Date: 2004-07-21 03:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mabfan.livejournal.com
Yeah, I asked them. Whenever I have an email issue with them, they either claim that it doesn't exist or else that they can't do anything about it.
