OK, after reading a bunch of OVFF trip reports from friends and friends-of-friends, I'm gonna have to ask: Raise your hand if you saw Becky, Harold, and Aaron Feld at OVFF.

OK, now raise your hand if you knew that Becky Feld is my sister.

Thank you.

Well, I wasn't at OVFF, but I know Becky is your sister. :)

See, I knew you knew the connection, but you're local, involved in fandom, and an in-person friend. That changes the equation. :-)

I poked the "random" button and then I saw this vortex open and I landed here in this corner of the space/time contiunuum. That's as nerdy as I get. At any rate, I have enjoyed your first two entries despite the noticeable disadvantage of knowing neither what OVFF is nor who you are. I give due consideration, however, to word geeks. I enjoy the language and it's form but wish I were better at working it. Maybe I can glean from your writings.

Also, have you ever heard of Beck Feld?

Hi! Welcome to my admittedly-bizzare little corner of the Livejournal universe. I'm glad you dropped in.

OVFF is the Ohio Valley Filk Festival, and it was held last weekend.

I'm a linguist-turned-technical-writer in the Boston area.

And, no, I must admit I've never heard of Beck Feld. Please enlighten me.

I hope you stick around; I always like meeting new people.

I hate to be so goy, but please tell me what Filk means. I am making a leap and guessing it might be a Jewish thing. How far off is that?

Actually, filk has nothing to do with Judaism, though I do know a lot of Jews in the Filk community. Filk is the music of science fiction, and it is a subculture unto itself. Those who write and perform filk are known as filkers. Tigerbright (I'd have made this a link, but LJ is picking on me) is a member of the filk community and is one of the memebers of my friends list; she might be able to explain better than I could.

You already know I know everyone. :) Just thought I'd say something, though. Any of you all going to Philcon, btw? What about Arisia? Tell Ima I say hi and send my love, btw.

You, I knew, knew. :-)

Philcon, no (because we went to Capclave and there went the con-travel budget for the end of the year), but Arisia, yes.

I'll pass on your good wishes to Ima (who I usually call lcNlc; those of you who read Hebrew will recognize that).

I can raise one hand but not the other. I did not know Becky Feld is your sister.

I don't think you and I have ever met in person. We do have friends in common however (and it seems I'm discovering more and more connections within my circle of friends every day). Do you go to any of the local SF conventions? If you'll be at Arisia, maybe we can meet face-to-face.

We have met, actually. :) And I'm going to be at Arisia this year, so we will meet again.

With hugs,
A.
