This time, on the current comma crisis.

(I've always had a theory about commas -- that there's a comma continuum and for each comma I remove from one author's prose, I add one to another author's prose. Perhaps this is a glitch in that system.)

Hee! I saw that and absolutely cracked up. [livejournal.com profile] velvetpaws and I both used to joke about commas all the time when we both worked at Parabola, and had to fight with our senior editor over using the Oxford comma.

Back when I used to beta a lot, I noticed that people who overused commas in one place tended to underuse them elsewhere.

I had been known to comment, "Please take the extra commas from this sentence and apply them here and here."
