Or, the return of the menu skeleton:

-- Grape juice
-- Challah
-- Stuff to put on challah: olive oil, zaatar, maybe roasted garlic
-- Starter of some sort (is it too whatever to do corn chowder as a starter?) Corn Chowder
-- Baked ziti
-- Veggie of some sort (marinated cauliflower salad, maybe? maybe ginger and garlic broccoli?) Ginger and Garlic Broccoli
-- Dessert (either chocolate chip cookie bars or, perhaps, chocolate carrot cake. Or, if I'm feeling ambitious, both.)

so early in the week to start planning...

I *know*. That's so odd for me! But we're out tomorrow night (lecture at the Museum of Science) and [personal profile] mabfan has class Thursday night, so I need to pin down whether or not I can get necessary groceries at Butcherie/Trader Joe's or if I need to do a Stop & Shop run.

Looks like I can do it all in a TJ's run + Butcherie. So that's a win. :-)

(but first I should confirm that I have ziti in my pantry. I don't remember if I used it in advance of Pesach.)

Oooh, that sounds good.

It is never too whatever to do corn chowder as a starter.

I was putting the menu together based on "what do I have in the pantry and what do I have to replenish now that Pesach is over." I'm glad it sounds good and not a weird hodgepodge of "why would anyone serve *that* together?"

And thanks for the reassurance about the soup course.

BTW, I like the icon on the main post. Is it new?

Relatively, yes. I got it and this one recently from [profile] shoegal_icons, when I was seeking cooking-/food-related icons. The one I used for the main post was my favorite of the bunch of food icons she had.

I *know*! I thought about doing something other than pasta for Shabbat, but then I said, "hang on... we can have *chametz* again! Let's do that!"

I adore noodles!!! :-) Sometimes I even like those kosher parve cup-o-noodles that you just add hot water and eat. For some really odd (and rather scary) reason they taste just like chicken broth!!! They are really bad snacks, but once in a while is OK :)

I went through a stage of adoring them and eating them alot. I'd add some pieces of chicken or tofu to feel better!

They are so bad for us, but they are addictive! :-)

Unfortunately, here in Northern CA, the ones on the shelf are probably 2 years old!!! The kosher selection is not very good in most places.

Cheer up. After eating them over many months I got tired of them. That was years ago. I tried one fairly recently and didn't like it at all!

:-) Oh, I've moved onto other pre-packaged kosher meals! Haha, but most of the time I just make my own food.

that "ginger and garlic broccoli" recipe is making my mouth water just reading it!

I've had the recipe for a while, but I've never made it. It's my experiment for this Shabbat. I'll let you know how it comes out.

Baked Ziti!

I'm sorry, did I just say that out loud?

Heh. It's one of my favorite recipes (for all that it looks complex, it's really not).

What great recipes! I enjoy reading about shabbat preparations. It's very inspiring. I think you know I've just started on being observant again. I live alone so I am thinking of having little shabbat dinners at my house.

Thanks! I've been posting my Shabbat menus for a while, linking the recipes when they're available online.

I go through phases of having guests and being guests (or being hermits). I'm in a "want to host, want to cook" phase again.
