Drive-By Language Poll

*Note: I always thought it was "he'll furnish the spot," but online lyrics databases seem to be split between "he'll furnish the spot" and "his firm is the spot," so I went with the one that popped up more.

Dear Unidentified Coworker
Aug. 5th, 2008 10:53 amThank you oh, so much for loudly whistling what I could only identify as "Jesus Christ Superstar." It's now firmly lodged in my brain. While I make no secret of being a fan of musical theatre, I'm really not an ALW fan, and I'm even less a fan of that particular show.
Now I must go and perform intense "Guys and Dolls" therapy.
No love,
The musically susceptible chick

(Scene:
mabfan and
gnomi are getting ready for work first thing this morning, and
mabfan is telling
gnomi about his dream.)
gnomi (sings): I dreamed last night, I was on the boat to Heaven.
mabfan (sings): And by some chance, I had brought my time machine!

mabfan is catching up with the day's news
mabfan: Pete McCloskey has registered as a democrat?!?
gnomi: Yeah.
mabfan: He's not in the House anyore, right?
gnomi: I don't remember. I do know about his wife, though.
mabfan: What about his wife?
gnomi: Mrs. McCloskey ain't a good scout.
mabfan: And things being how they are...
gnomi and
mabfan, together: The back of the police station is out!

Musical Meme
Aug. 1st, 2006 04:35 pmThis is a twist on the Letter Meme. Instead of coming up with ten items for a certain letter, you come up with five song titles for a certain letter and explain why you picked them. If interested then leave a comment. I'll give you a letter. You post this blurb in your journal along with your list.
cicirossi gave me L.
-- Leaving on a Jet Plane: I've always liked this song, from the time I was little. It's a little melancholy, but I like it anyway.
-- Luck be a Lady: Not my favorite song from the "Guys and Dolls" soundtrack, but the one that fit the letter. :-) I love that soundtrack and frequently have it on the mental radio.
-- Lonesome Road: I first heard it a cappella, and it's just one of those songs that's stuck with me.
-- Let's Get Away From It All: Again, first heard a cappella, and I like the idea of a song about GAFIAting.
-- Living in Fast Forward: A country song; Kenny Chesney, to be specific. The inspiration (in the other half of the brain) for the monolithic project
eal and I are working on.
***
Songs rejected from the list, for various reasons:
-- L'cha Dodi
-- From "1776," The Lees of Old Virginia (I would've had to do it as "Lees of Old Virginia, The")
-- Because I'm odd, I considered and rejected (along the lines of the above) Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry," to be filed as "Laundry, Dirty."
