-- I'm done with my leave and am now back at work, so expect to see me online at least slightly more often.

-- How is it that Muffin and Squeaker are almost nine weeks old? They're gaining head control and other good things on a daily basis, and they're beginning to notice the other baby in the co-sleeper/pack-and-play.

-- Ridiculous things I've said to my children: "[Muffin/Squeaker], are you crying because you're sad or are you crying because the baby is crying?" "[Muffin/Squeaker], shhh! You'll wake the baby!" "All baby service representatives are currently assisting other babies. Your call is important to us; please be patient and the next available baby service representative will be with you as soon as possible. This call may be monitored for quality assurance."

-- How did it get to be the week before Rosh Hashannah? This happens to me every year, and I never understand how.

-- A question to ponder: what earthly purpose do pockets have on a 0-3 month size onesie? What's she going to carry, her keys and mobile phone? She can't even support her own head yet.

-- People bringing us food was wonderful, but at the same time there is something very nice about getting back to doing my own menu planning and cooking.

-- I missed my coworkers. I did not miss the commute. Thank goodness for understanding management and coworkers who are willing to give me rides.

-- Our home office is at the back of our apartment, and I'm discovering that our portable phone doesn't have the greatest reception back there (the base station is at the front of the apartment in our bedroom, and it's only recently that I'm using the back office regularly, so it hasn't previously been an issue). On the downside, it means that the home line isn't the best to reach me on when I'm working back there. On the upside, though, it means that we won't be as likely to have that phone ringing in the room next door to the kids' room.

-- I've missed everyone while I was in hibernation. I hope all is well by all of you.

Welcome back! Oh, how I've missed you! And I can not wait to hear tales of Muffin and Squeaker! *fierce hugs from afar*

I've missed you, too!

::hugs back with great might::

There will, no doubt, be many tales of Muffin and Squeaker. They do new and exciting things every day. Squeaker has figured out how to hold in her own pacifier (and she's working on how to put it back into her mouth after she knocks it out). Muffin is curious about *everything* and wants to be involved and has learned how to get up onto her elbows. And that's just in the pat couple of days.

It is a well-known fact that the Jewish Holidays always either arrive early or late. They are never on time.

Welcome back.

Glad they are doing well.

I'll be passing the "Baby service representative" a long. Its brilliant.

It is the week before Rosh Hashannah because we are on Earth, a planet that revolves around the Sun. It is this motion around the Sun that is measured and gives us a year.

The pockets exist to amuse the people around her. When they see a pocket they are pleased she is properly dressed up. Its the same way the Queen of England carries a purse even though she really doesn't need to carry anything in it.

Thank you. There is, apparently, a lot of creativity that I can tap when I am exhausted and desperate. :-)

It drives me nuts that baby clothes often have pockets -- sometimes a ludicrous number of pockets -- and yet many women's clothing items don't.

Rosh Hashanah usually don't sneak up on me -- Shavuot does. How is this possibly when we literally count down to shavuot? I don't know, but every year it does.

I know! I need more skirts with pockets, while my daughters have pockets they don't even need.

Shavuot sneaks up on me, too. Even with all the counting.

It's to give women an incentive to have more babies.

Indeed. Though they didn't really seem to realize that there was more than one baby until they were about four weeks old. Before that, the crying most likely melded in with other background noises.

Fascinating! Although I'm sure it would be more fascinating if it didn't lead to further sleep deprivation...

There's also a theory that newborns aren't even aware that their own crying comes from themselves. That is, they cry, they hear the noise, they aren't aware that they are the ones in fact making the noise, they are bothered by the noise, and then they cry more? Something like that.

Welcome back!

Shanah tovah to you and your family.

Rosh Hashanah is upon me too soon as well, after a horrible summer that has led into a stressful fall; I haven't been able to get done most of the things I needed to before the end of the year and in preparation for the new one, even though I had planned in advance and originally had plenty of time.

Thank you for the good wishes.

And I hope this upcoming year brings you much good and happiness.

Recently overheard in my office (I am not making this up): "Your cry of anguish is very important to us, and we are sorry we missed it. If you call back between the hours of 7AM and 4PM, a member of our team will be happy to take your cry of anguish at that time."

Fortunately this was said to someone internal, not to a customer. :-)

-- People bringing us food was wonderful, but at the same time there is something very nice about getting back to doing my own menu planning and cooking.

This is why I think post-baby meals should be scheduled for 3x/wk for the first week, and then 1x/wk for the following month (or however long people want to bring them). Plus maybe Shabbat supplementation. Good balance of doing your own planning vs. bonus nights off.

It was great having so much food that I didn't have to think about during the time that I was barely able to remember to put on clean clothes (though we often invited A&A or J&A for meals so that things didn't go to waste). And I didn't really miss making my own menus until I was at the point that I was making menus again. That's when I said, "Oh! I remember doing this. I *like* doing this!"

We have multiple locations that the babies can sleep so that if one is fussy we can take the fussy one out to prevent her from waking the other (Tuesday night, it was Muffin who got taken out; last night it was Squeaker).

And thanks!

I know!! We want to know the same thing. The boys ones have working snaps and buttons... like we want anything small enough to actually fit in those pockets to be anywhere near the baby in the first place! LOL
